India is colourful, crazy, wonderful, brave & spiritual: Chris Martin

India is all set to witness the Global Citizen Festival for the very first time in Mumbai this Saturday and apart from Coldplay, Jay-Z and Demi Lovato many other artists as well as Bollywood celebrities will also be present. We told you yesterday that the frontman of Coldplay Chris Martin was already in Mumbai and the lead vocalist is gearing up for the concert.

In an interview with Times Now, the popular band’s frontman expressed his happiness over being a part of India’s Global Citizen initiative. He said, ‘I am so happy to be in India. We had to do like 20 years of touring and 700 gigs before we perform this Saturday for the Indian crowd.’

Below are some of the exerts from the interview.

Rumour has it that the concert tickets were sold for a bomb price of Rs 5 lakh. When asked if he had any idea about what was being speculated, he said, “No.  The concert is a part of Global Citizen Festival and most people have earned their tickets by signing up for a cause which is either cleaning up the city, supporting sanitation in cities or education for children. We were desperate to come here and play and in the last few years we have become close to Global Citizen Organization because we believe in their philosophy of looking after fellow humans and thinking of them as one big family.”

However, this is not Coldplay’s first trip to India. The band had earlier toured the country when they shot for ‘Hymn for The Weekend’, the video of which also featured Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor. Quipping about what he feels about coming to India, he said, “It seemed like a perfect opportunity to come to somewhere (India) which is this vibrant, colourful and contains the world within itself. That’s what I feel about India. It’s a great honour to be here and it’s a bonus that we have here some fans who are excited. He summed up the country in 5 words saying India is colourful, crazy, wonderful, brave & spiritual.”

Unfortunately, the song ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ received a lot of flak on social media, commenting on the same he quipped, “I would like to apologize if I have hurt somebody. I try to not be upset or annoyed. If somebody says that he is offended than I say sorry.”

Global Citizen Festival shall also have several Indian celebrities performing, apart from Coldplay. If Martin is familiar with any of these Indian names? Yes, indeed! The artist does know a few of them including Shah Rukh Khan, Sonam Kapoor Katrina Kaif Kapoor, sorry Kaif! He also admits to not being able to pronounce their name properly! (Umm, we already saw a glimpse of that part)

Everything said and done, over 80,000 Indians are all set to watch the British rock band perform in India for the very first time. Besides Martin and his boys, Jay Z, Demi Lovato, Amitabh Bachchan shall also be gracing the evening this Saturday. Excited and how!
